Where to Buy Tickets in Italy
Italy offers various transportation options
You can buy tickets from:
-
Official Apps (ATM Milano, Roger, GTT TO Move, Tabnet, etc.)
-
Metro Stations – Ticket machines available with English
-
Tabacchi Shops – Look for the blue “T” sign
-
Newsstands & Some Bars
Ticket Validation & Validity
Once you buy a ticket, it is not active until you validate it:
-
On buses/trams: Use the small yellow or green machine inside the vehicle.
-
In metro stations: Insert the ticket at the turnstile.
-
For digital tickets (apps): Activate it just before boarding.
After validation, a standard urban ticket is usually valid for:
-
90 minutes in most cities (e.g., Milan, Bologna, Florence, Rome)
-
Unlimited transfers within that time — but no return trips on the same route.
Tip: Always check the back of the ticket or the app to see the exact rules in your city.
